Big Money Pumped Into Races By NRCC And RNC
The National Republican Congressional Committee today sank $894,689.97 into dozens of House races across the country, new filings with the Federal Election Commission show. About half of that money went into one race: Just over $400,000 was spent on the battle for Tom DeLay's House seat alone. Meanwhile, the Republican National Committee dropped a staggering$1,772,765.54 on negative ads against Missouri Dem Senate candidate Claire McCaskill.

My brother lives in T22, an underground Demo insurgent cell. He says that there are 3 obstacles:
1. Most GOP voters vote straight ticket with one lever or screen touch and will do it reflexively
2. Because the GOP replacement is on the special election ballot, some voters, assuming they get past the straight ticket reflex, are likely to vote that thinking they've voted the full term race
2. Although much has been made of the feature on Texas machines requiring the voter to spell accurately the name of the write-in choice, a ballot spoiled for misspellings doesn't necessarily end the matter
He believes that the Texas GOP will challenge any result where What's her name + Spoiled ballots > Lampson vote
Intent of the voter. If someone enters an "S" and gives up, then it is a vote for what's her face
Lampson is apparently fairly conservative having been regularly re-elected in the redneck Beaumont-Vidor district until DeLay shot the varmit down

Ya know, this election is pretty amazing. I hate that so much is going into politics rather than, say, research into good policy. But it is at least a little sweet vindication that the GOP and it's money bags have wasted so much on an effort that is looking increasingly futile.

Did you read the piece in Barron's claiming that most money wins 90% of the time? Supposedly applying this "model" the GOP holds on..the catch is - the author asks the reader to buy the Bush line that this is not a watershed election; that Iraq doesn't matter, and that most people are more interested in the stock market and gas prices
Kinda circular tune that..whistled past the graveyard.
Still, I wish the DNC could dump 1.7 million into Virginny
