Vet Amputee Duckworth Will Slam Bush In Dem Radio Response
Dem House candidate and veteran Tammy Duckworth -- who lost both her legs in the Iraq war -- will slam President Bush for painting Dems as the "cut and run" party in the Dem response to tomorrow's Presidential radio address, according to an audio excerpt of the speech obtained by Election Central. "I didn’t cut and run, Mr. President," Duckworth will say. "Like so many others, I proudly fought and sacrificed. My helicopter was shot down long after you proclaimed `Mission Accomplished.'" Exclusive audio excerpt after the jump.
Anyone who challenges our failed policies, or suggests the need for a new strategy, is accused of “cutting and running.”Well, I didn’t cut and run, Mr. President. Like so many others, I proudly fought and sacrificed. My helicopter was shot down long after you proclaimed "Mission Accomplished."
Listen to our exclusive audio excerpt of Duckworth's speech here.

I live in the 7th district (Illinois) but a neighbor has a Roskam sign on the lawn.
I just can't imagine holding a civilized conversation with this neighbor, now. Fortunately, he has to vote against Danny Davis (D), a hopeless goal.
I sure hope that the seat formerly occupied by that sanctimonious old fart, Henry Hyde, goes the other way.

Good for Ms. Duckworth....! She certainly has the moral courage and standing to be the official Dem respondent...I hope she minces NO words in her response to the Nation's #1 Chicken Hawk (aka MIA/AWOL George)

Wow.
Sounds like Duckworth has found her Obama Keynote moment.

The webcast should be on her website after the broadcast tomorrow if you want to listen. I have an update of recent articles and dueling press releases from the race here.

Excellent - go Tammy.
I am interested in how much media coverage it will get.

Things like this make me feel like I have passed into bizarro world. No satirist could make up stuff like this.
A pampered little yuppie chickenhawk from Glen Ellyn, without an ounce of shame, uses the term "cut and run" against a veteran WITH NO LEGS.
I'm surprised he hasn't accused her of blowing off her legs on purpose just to criticize bush. (And the worst thing is that, if he did, at least 25% of the voters in that district would believe him).

It'd be an appropriate send-off for Hyde whose only regret concerning the Clinton Impeachment Farce is that he didn't apply the screws a bit more.
What a jerk.

Well, her first response a few days ago was wimpy. I'm glad a Democrat has finally found a response other than shocked defensiveness at the "cut and run" charge.

Ok, I'm getting so tired of the way democrats have been fighting back at republican's 'cut and run' accusations. Here's a campaign tip: if you want to cut the head off the accusations, embrace them instead of fighting them...wait here me out- release an onslaught of ads that show people in situations that cutting and running would be the best option ie. A man jumps out of an burning air plane with a parachute and lands in a tree that is on fire from the crash- with no other option except to burn to death in the tree, he cuts himself out of the parachute and lands on the ground- he gets up and runs away from the fire to save his own life...effectively showing some situations that it 'is' better to 'cut and run' such as the quagmire in Iraq...I'm sorry that we have people running for office that are so insensitive that they would attack a war vet that is a double amputee and question her courage, but it's just these type of people that put us there in the first place- I propose that democrats be more creative and smarter! If they(rep.) can transform an idiot like Bush into a leader then democrats can transform this 'cut an run' idea of cowardice into heroism and intelligence. But maybe I should run their campaigns...I know I can do better!

UHMMMM Leo, my dear friend, I think you meant 10/28 instead of 11/28. I think 11/28 might be too late to help Tammy! But great post otherwise.

Canvass for Tammy Duckworth!
If you're in the Chicagoland area, you can canvass for Tammy Duckworth every Saturday starting at 10am from her office in Lombard (1000 Rohlwing Rd. Lombard). Contact Nick at nrutan@duckworthforcongress.com.
In addition, we're organizing carpools from Chicago and Evanston to help her out on Sunday (10/8, 11am) and Saturday (10/28, 9am).
We're also arranging carpools on the final weekend but they haven't been finalized yet.

Quibling perhaps, but wouldn't the sound bite, if not the whole speech, sound better if she wasn't saying "our failed policies" but "your failed policies" since she seems to be addressing Bush?
It sort of sounds like one of those accidental church bulletin miswordings. Why would we be challenging our policies?
Otherwise, it's great to hear a Democrat actually speaking out on Iraq for a change. Does Rahm know or did someone pull a fast one on him to let a Democrat talk about THE campaign issue of the year, Iraq(!)?

Cut the bullshit and run the governement.
You can't fight terrorism, catch OBL and run the government when you are too busy buggering little boys and covering it up for two years. I'm voting for the cut and run crowd.

Gault,
Nope. Unlike phony self-proclaimed Republican "uniters, not dividers," Maj. Duckworth is a good Democrat and a proud liberal, who understands that we are all in this together.

How ironic that we are keep hearing everybody in the Republican Leadership, from Bush on down, using their "news sound bites" to call all Democrats "Cut and Runners".
Boy, they seem to have that phrase down pat, as well they should.
After all, wasn't it this SAME GROUP OF PEOPLE that "CUT AND RUN" when it was THEIR TURN TO SERVE DURING WARTIME?

How Apropos!
Yup, not only can they still "say the phrase" real well, but they knew how to "do it themselves" when it was their time to serve!!
Now if these same people who have perfected the art of "Cutting and Running" during their lives, can stubbornly pull their fat heads out of the sand and realize what is really going on in Iraq and The World for a change!

She did not cut and run while serving in Iraq, God Bless Her!
Are we supposed to fall in line behind her BECAUSE she lost her legs?
I am sorry, that is not enough.
For good or ill, we are in Iraq (Democrats and Republicans sent us there) and we HAVE to finish it by ensuring a secure democracy. Anything else is failure.
And do not give me that tripe about pre-war intel. If the Dems and Reps were too lazy to do their JOB and look into it, then THEY ALL are to blame for where we are now. Only CONGRESS can send America to war.
