VA-SEN: Another Witness Claims Allen Uttered Racial Slurs

Yet another witness has just come out and claimed GOP Senator George Allen has uttered racial slurs. Pat Waring, of Chesterton, Md., has just told Hardball that at a sports match, Allen repeatedly used the `n' word to describe African Americans. Waring claims that in 1978, her then-husband was a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Virginia and a rugby player, and that she sometimes went to games. Here's what she says happened at one game: "I heard to my left, the ‘n’ word, and I heard it again, and I looked around and heard it again," she said. “And there was this fellow sitting on the ground." She says that when she learned later that he was George Allen, the son of the Washington Redskins coach, she was "crestfallen." View video of her here. MSNBC's story here.

Breaking News:

George Allen is going to be replaced as Republican candidate for the Senate by a nun from Richmond.

There is a pre-recorded interview by Chris Matthews of Sister Mary Nice that will be released tomorrow:

MATTHEWS: Have you ever said the N-word or heard anybody say it?

SISTER MARY: N-word? What N-word? Nice? Nun?

MATTHEWS: Let my whisper it in your ear.

(Matthews whispers in Sister Mary's ear.)

SISTER MARY: Oh my goodness.

MATTHEWS: Now, have you ever heard anybody say the N-word?

SISTER MARY: Yes.

MATTHEWS: Who?

SISTER MARY: You.

This has long passed the drip, drip, drip stage. The spigot's open full and the Allen campaign is going under. I don't see how he survives this. Couldn't happen to a more deserving asshole.

I'm not sure this seals the deal--not becuase it isn't serious, but because all these stories are blurring together into a fuzzy list of the same allegations. It's probably going to be hard for the media to lead with this story on page one again, and from now on, stories from now on are going to include the allegations from the WaPo that Webb and his friends used to threaten blacks with rifles in Watts. If the average voter hasn't already decided, she's just going to think it's typical low-ball campaigning stuff on both sides and think it's a wash.

The more important thing that happened today in this race is that gutter-ball ad by Allen using the female Navy cadets accusing Webb of bigotry. The SUSA poll from last night had Webb's lead among women at only 1%. That's not going to cut it. You better believe that Allen's campaign knows exactly what they're doing with that ad, and who their target audience is. They know Webb has to win women voters by a fairly solid percentage, and this story and that ad seems to be aimed right at those voters.

Webb needs to debunk the women story to neutralize the ad somehow, get off the racism issue (it's done what it's going to do) and focus on the Woodward revelations that are coming out in Sunday. IRAQ will win him this campaign. The rest will wash, and Allen will slink by.

Women don't know that there was great hostility to them in many workplaces that extend far beyond the military? Women really are dumber than men you think?

My guess is that spot is a non-starter and that the stories about Allen's racism are wearing thin.

Allen got himself in a particular jam by lying rather crudely. Webb told the truth. End of story. End of Allen.

At least I hope so.

Allen should have known that hundreds of 20 somethings will be watching the YouTube video clips of him f*cking up, and these vids are simply going to bury his campaign. Check out this one, for example:

Allen looks like he is one step away from dragging us back into the racism of the 60's. Pretty moving, but also brutal.

Oh p.s. he deserves it. he should have thought before he said 'n*gger'
