PA-SEN: Santorum: Terrorists More Dangerous Than Hitler, Soviet Union, Mao

GOP Senator Rick Santorum apparently believes that today's terrorists are more dangerous than Adolf Hitler, the Soviet Union or Mao Zedong. In a recent stump speech in Lewisburg, Santorum said: "This is an enemy more dangerous than any we have faced in the 20th century. This is the fight of our time."

The terrorists are SOOO dangerous....

How dangerous are they?!?

They are SOOO dangerous they make W's grammar look safe.

They are SOOO dangerous they make Dick Cheney's scowl look safe.

They are SOOO dangerous they make the prospect of another Republican congress look safe.

They are SOOO dangerous they make nuclear war look safe.

Add your own!

Clouded and dangerous thinking from a troubled and fear-filled man. The Dems really need to start calling these wips for what they are--fear-filled scaredy-cats.

Well *I* heard that The Terrorists are 7 feet tall and have 6 inch fangs that they use to suck out the brains of newborns.

This is all starting to remind me of the "Four Yorkshiremen" sketch...

Santorum's usual idiocy aside, there's some truth there. That's what's so frustrating about all of this - competent terrorists are committing atrocities, and our government is busy nabbing dumbasses for buying combat boots in Florida. It's that whole wacky Buttle/Tuttle mixup every day with these guys.

The GOP FEAR campaign has become even more ludicrous than it's been for the past 5 years. Yet, perhaps thanks to it, the GOP and Bush have gotten a little "bump" up in the polls this week. It's past time for the Dems to hoist GOPers on their own petard. Turn their obsession with fear against them. Slam them: "GOP: The Party of FEAR". "GOP: ALL FEAR, ALL THE TIME". "GOP: the party that cries FEAR!" "GOP says BE AFRAID! What are they hiding?" "GOP: All we have to offer is FEAR itself!" Smear em with their own fear and show them for the loathesome manipulators they are.

Santorum, seems to be fixated on using Hitler as a metaphor to scare the American people with.

I wonder if keeping with the same tone that he uses, if Santorum himslef could be the equivalent of Adolph Eichmann within the Bush administration?

Afterall Santorum just like Eichmann is just another hatchet man for his masters.

This existential threat rhetoric seems to be getting louder and more shrill.

Classic fascist tactic - roundup "criminals" just before an election.

Used time immemorial in third world nations.

One possible response to such statements:In the past we had courageous leaders who stood up to the British empire, tyrants like Hitler and Stalin, and powerful enemies like the Soviet Union that could destroy the earth several times over. Now, we are faced with terrorists that are nowhere as powerful as our previous adversaries. However, cowards like Senator Santorum are scared of them, and are willing to sacrifise the American way of life and freedoms that generations fought to preserve. It is time for change. We can do better.

The Democrats ought to be using statements like this to portray Republicans as cowards and fools who are unserious about national security. If Santorum doesn't believe America can prevail, then he should be replaced. If Santorum doesn't understand the nature of the threat, then he should be replaced. I think the "Republicans = cowards" line could provide victory for Democrats this election cycle and go a long way towards dispelling the myth that they are "weak" on security matters. Take that away from the GOP and what do they have left to run on? Voters will see them for what they are: corrupt, incompetent, uncaring and elitist.

The question is whether the Democrats themselves possess the courage to be aggressive campaigners and put the Republicans on the defensive.

I've coined a new word for this: Scarrorism. Kinda like terrorism, but it is getting people to be overly afraid of terrorism. These people want you to be SCARED. Santorum is a scarrorist.

I call people like Santorum Terrorpublicans.

Every Democrat should be pointing out their blatant agenda: to keep Americans scared.

And every Democrat should be proudly quoting FDR:

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.
