PA-SEN: Giuliani Stars In Ad For Santorum

GOP Senator Rick Santorum -- who's trailing Dem Bob Casey in recent polls -- has now called in the Rudy Giuliani cavalry. He's just released a new ad featuring Rudy that's set in a firehouse (not exactly an original choice of setting for an ad featuring Rudy) and shows firemen sitting in rapt silence as Rudy says of Santorum: "When he tells you what he thinks, you know that it's coming from his mind and his heart and his conscience. It's not just something that you want to hear." The ad appears to be trying to take two two of Rudy's best-known perceived strengths -- his post-9/11 association with first responders, and his alleged tendency to say what he thinks -- and transfer them over to Santorum.

Update: Post edited slightly from original.

Something's fishy with this ad. They never once show Giuliani in the same frame with the firefighters. I'd bet good money that Giuliani taped this on a sound stage and never actually addressed the bunch they show there at all. Which is fine, as long as people realize that what he's saying is as much of a fiction as the way in which he's saying it.

Maybe Ricky can get Bernie Kerik to cut an ad for him too. Kerik was Rudy's guy during the 9/11 aftermath. It would be fitting. One crook endorsing another.

Good catch...I'll check it out!

You may be right. Notice that pan right at the beginning. Just when it gets to the podium, it cuts off. Man, would that be embarrassing. I can't believe they'd do something like that.

By the way, this is a 60 sec cut, which means it's not a TV ad. It's web only. Which means that very few people will see it.

Anyone know if the PA firefighter and police unions have endorsed a candidate in this race?

60 seconds doesn't guarantee it's a web-only ad... though usually, ads that long are usually used for bio-introduction spots.
