Ohio Blogger "Yellow Dog Sammy" Takes On State GOP -- And Wins
A lone Ohio blogger has taken on the entire state GOP -- and won. Last week, the Ohio Republicans ran an attack ad against local Dem State Rep. candidate Matt Lundy. But it seems the GOP made the mistake of stealing a copyrighted picture of the candidate from the web site of liberal blogger Yellow Dog Sammy, a.k.a. Jeff Coryell. Bad move.
Yellow Dog Sammy didn't like the fact that the GOP was stealing his picture one bit, so he threatened to sue.
At first, the state GOP scoffed at Yellow Dog Sammy. Scott Borgemenke, chief of staff for Ohio Speaker of the House Jon Husted, told The Chronicle-Telegram: "We won’t change the ad. He can take us to court if he wants to."
But Yellow Dog didn't roll over. He backed up his threat with letters from two lawyers and encouraged readers and fellow bloggers to get involved.
After days of pounding from Yellow Dog and friends, the state GOP finally gave in. Borgemenke told local reporters that he thought the pictures were in fact the same and that they'd be recutting the ad. Today, Yellow Dog declared victory and dropped the suit, and the GOP is running the ads without his picture.
