NM-01: Poll: Dem Madrid And GOPer Wilson In Dead Heat
A new independent poll of the nationally-watched race between incumbent GOP Rep. Heather Wilson and Dem Challenger Patricia Madrid was released over the weekend by the Albuquerque Journal, and it shows a dead heat: Wilson 45%, Madrid 42%. Says University of New Mexico political science professor Chris Garcia: "It is, absolutely, anybody's race. It has major national implications. It was billed early on as one of the races to watch— and it is living up to its billing."

I helped out in NM-1 in '04. Wilson is a strong closer and she is in good shape. The last couple weeks in '04 sealed the deal for Wilson--she had a pretty ugly campaign by the end (or was it the NRCC?).
Madrid is a pretty strong candidate but the GOP worked hard to tie her to a statewide scandal earlier this year. You can definitely see that the results of the poll (job approval rating).
I heard Wilson is in the running for Senator when Domenici is out. Nothing would make me happy than to kill that bug now.

GQ - could you write a bit more about Wilson? I had a good impression of her but know very little, really, about her.
