MD-04: Yes, Wynn Appears To Have Won

The latest numbers from the nationally-watched Dem primary in Maryland's Fourth District are in. With 100% of precincts reporting, Rep. Al Wynn leads challenger Donna Edwards 50.45-45.70. Though there are still provisional ballots outstanding, it is unlikely that there will be enough for Edwards to make up her 3,554-vote gap. We'd wager that in Edwards' camp the planning for 2008 is already underway.

given the huge response to Edwards's late-starting run, if she concedes this race, all she should need to do is to keep some eyes open on the street, and keep gathering the information of Wynn's shady activities and overt knee-capping, to bash 'em flat in '08

I don't know where the Sun is getting their numbers, but if you add the totals on the Montgomery and PG County websites you get the following totals which are higher (and therefore likely more up to date) and slightly more favorable:

Wynn, Albert R. 38324 50.02%
Edwards, Donna 35333 46.11%

Adding up to a 2,991-vote gap.

Regardless, the chances of Edwards making up that much ground from 4000-5000 paper ballots are virtually nil. She'll have to wait until '08.
