GOP gubernatorial candidate Bob Beauprez has been blasting Dem candidate Bill Ritter for being soft on crime by pointing to stats showing that while Ritter was Denver attorney general, his office accepted 61,000 felony cases, and sent 12,000 felons -- a fifth of overall cases -- to prison. The problem? By almost three percentage points, Ritter sent more felons to prison than the average AG country-wide, according to Justice Department records. Criminal justice expert Kathleen Maguire says of Beauprez's claim: It's "such a gross oversimplification that it's irresponsible" and "exploits the public."
