Bush Won't Question Critics' Patriotism — But Others Can
There was a great moment at President Bush's press conference today that's passed completely unnoticed. Asked about GOP Rep. John Boehner's recent remark that Dems might rather protect terrorists than protect Americans, Bush started off by saying that no one should ever question critics' patriotism—then quickly corrected himself to say that he would never question critics' patriotism. His answer: "No one should ever question the patriotism of somebody who—let me just start over—I don't question the patriotism of somebody who doesn't agree with me." So did Bush just unwittingly give away the game by revealing that he'll happily look the other way while others question his critics' patriotism, as he remains above the fray? View it here.

Yeah, George. That's what I call it too: "The Illegal Eavesdropping Program." Funny thing is --> the Constitution calls it that as well.

Jan,
You left off the obligatory "heh, heh, heh..." at the end of his truthful remark. Jon Stewart will have fun with this one.

Exactly right. Bush made a similiar comment during a speech a few weeks ago that it is wrong to question the patriotism of his critics. But of course, the entire GOP strategy this fall will be to paint Democrats as traitors and terrorist sympathizers.

If I heard this correctly, he basically said Boehner isn't a leader.
"Leader's don't do that".
What do you know. I agree with Bush on something. Boehner isn't a leader.

In another give away of the game, Bush told Katie Couric that the hardest thing about his job has been connecting Iraq to 9/11, or words to that effect.

Just like he didn't know all those horrible things were being said about John McCain in the 2000 South Carolina primary. McCain told W not to give him that I didn't know BS.

I caught the same thing and was going to mention it on my blog, but all the darn college football games sidetracked me today.

Any study of Samuel Johnson's writings will show you he was refering to "false patriots" like Murtha, Reid and Pelosi, who hate GWB so much that they are willing to compromise security for political point scoring.

Actually, he was speaking about people that would not act in the best interest of the Country, like Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Rice.
They are the ones that allowed the terrorist attack and are busy creating more terrorists and the conditions that breed terrorism.
Our "security" isn't very imprtant to them, they've even decided to let Osama go.

Considering that the high point of his presidency was when he caught a big Pike in his (probably over-stocked) lake, I would think the hardest part was pulling that sucker off the hook. (But he probably had someone else do that for him)
If he had even one cell's worth of empathy the hardest part would be meeting with families of those who have died in vain for his quagmire folly. That doesn't seem to faze him though. He really couldn't care less about them. No wonder his own kids don't like him.

He said it was a pike a lot larger than any known Pike.
That was a lie.
I agree with Bill Maher, he should be impeached over that. That would be appropriate, after all the lies he's told, impeaching the SOB over lying about the fish would serve him right.

He's a great one for passing the ball. He never apologizes, never admits a mistake. Let his henchmen and handpuppets (like Snow) do his work for him. A true liar, a true deflector. So if you vote for any Republicans, the problem will be he will still feel strong enough to evade responsibility; if not, his responsibility and the outcome of his actions may be questioned in public.
