CT-SEN: Lieberman Leads Lamont In New Poll

So Rasmussen Reports has just released its first post-primary survey of the Connecticut Senate race, and it suggests that while the race is close, Lamont has some work to do.

It shows Lieberman leading 46%-41%. More highlights after the jump.

More:

57% of the state's voters view Lieberman as politically moderate while 51% see Lamont as liberal.

Overall, 55% of Connecticut voters trust Lieberman more than Lamont when it comes to the War on Terror. Thirty-one percent (31%) trust Lamont.

Thirty-one percent (31%) have a Very Favorable opinion of Lieberman, 18% Very Unfavorable.

For Lamont, the numbers are 19% Very Favorable, 23% Very Unfavorable.

Lieberman still attracts 35% of votes from Democrats. Lamont will have to find a way to trim that number without alienating unaffiliated voters. Lieberman is viewed at least somewhat favorably by 65% of unaffiliated voters compared to 49% for Lamont.

Remember, this was a very early poll, before his loss had sunk in. Or, for that matter, the support of Rove, the President, some of the stupid comments he has made. Actually, I was surprised that Liberman was not ahead by more. The more important poll numbers will be the next one. If Lamont can cut those numbers down... it will be all over. I can't believe that very many Dems or Indies will be happy with the idea that Karl Rove called up Joe.

Judging from this and the events of the last few days, I think that the conclusion that we can draw from this is that unless Lieberman decides to do what is best for the Democratic Party and get out, the Connecticut senate contest will be long, nasty and expensive.

ROFLMAO! Before the loss had sunk in? You mean before the citizens of CT had the chance to realize that they had to fear and tremble in the mighty presence of the fascistic neo-left hordes....

Well, let's speak a little truth to the presumption of power. The vote for Lamont was essentially 8% of eligible voters from Connecticut.. that's correct, the votes that won the primary for Neddy Lamont, by approximately 10,000 votes constituted only a lowly 8% of the people eligible to vote in that state.

No one in CT is stupid enough to believe the convenient lies the Lamontsters need to spin about Rove. Perhaps a few of the disconnected Lamont country club elite who trend lefty, or who liked how Lamont voted as a tool of the Greenwich republicans, who have their own reasons for voting for him, will either swallow or parrot it.. but that is all. The people know the vast real difference between Rove and Lieberman. They, unlike you pay attention to more than single issues.. they know Lieberman's voting record across the board.. they also know that if Rove attempts to make it appear that he's pal-sey with Lieberman, it helps oinks like you spin to help them. Just because your agenda is dependent on people who are the grassroots being as clueless and willingly duped as your grasstops, doesn't mean that the grassroots are, or will be.

Two CT state democratic leaders are endorsing Lieberman so far. One of which is the mayor of a town, Waterbury, I believe because not only does the mayor respect Lieberman, but Lamont's campaign manager Tom Swan labeled the town as slime, because the majority of votes were cast there for Lieberman. It took virtually a week for Lamont to get off his pampered posterior to make a rather weak comment to the town. He has yet to demand his campaign hacker, oops manager do the same.

You fail to recognize that you have no concept of the issues and realities of the majority of voters in that state. You believe if you spin it loudly enough the votes will be co-opted in your favor.. it doesn't and won't work that way. But keep it up, your hypocrisies and lies can be used against you.

BTW, this just in, the fact that Mark Warner has Jerome Armstrong and by their relationship, Markos Moulitsas (Daily Kos) on the payola roll is turning out to be a very unpopular decision for Warner. Democrats informed of this, supplied with the facts are questioning why anyone would want a criminal like that on the payroll, and what that means about his ethics and values. I can predict he won't be so well received in New Hampshire any more, and in the not so distant future, anywhere else, as a presumptive presidential candidate.

I wouldn't get too excited about this poll.

* Rasmussen uses phone robots for its polls.

* Lieberman is going to lose much of his institutional support, Dem leadership in both DC and Conn, as well as major unions.

This poll seems to be ignoring that the race is between three candidates, not two, and that many R's in CT aren't going to be happy with either Lieberman or Lamont.
