AZ-08: GOP Frontrunner On The Age Of The Earth: "I Don't Know And I Don't Care"

Randy Graf, who's way ahead of his fellow Republican candidates in the polls to replace outgoing Rep. Jim Kolbe (R), was recently asked by a reporter for his views on creationism. How old, the reporter queried, does Graf think the earth is? Graf's answer: "I don't know and I don't care...I've got my Christian faith, and I'm very comfortable with that."

I would be worried if he were being nominated for head of the US Geological Survey. He's unlikely to have to deal with legislation about the age of the earth -- which is, to me, a quite different scientific subject than evolutionary biology, with the caveat that evolutionary biology tends to assume a time scale.

JFK pledged to honor his responsibilities as President, not to follow Vatican directives. Now, if Graf won't agree to respect the Establishment Clause, and is quoted saying to Christian groups that he will work to legislate evangelical values into law, I have a very big worry.
