CT-SEN: Schumer Gives Lieberman DSCC's Full Support

At a press briefing in Washington yesterday, Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) Chairman Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said that Joe Lieberman has the committee’s “full support.” He would not promise that the DSCC would withdraw their support if Lieberman left the party, saying there were different kinds of independents. "You can run as an independent, you can run as an independent Democrat who pledges to vote for Harry Reid as Majority Leader," Schumer said. (A more complete version is here, but you need a subscription.)

Democracy for America has put together a petition asking Democratic politicans and voters to support the winner of the primary.

Lieberman challenger Ned Lamont was also in Washington yesterday for the Take Back America Conference, his first major national appearance. Lamont spoke on the "Eruptions: The Public Moves Against the War" panel. His speech was only nine minutes long, but the 350-person audience managed to fit in three standing ovations (before, during, and after). Ambassador Joseph Wilson, Rep. Lynn Woolsey (D-Calif.) and MoveOn.org director Tom Matzzie were also on the panel. After the panel, the first question was for Lamont: "How do we send checks?"

The Connecticut Education Association and AFT Connecticut formally endorsed Lamont at a press conference today.

Well, it's not up to me to determine what the good people of CT do with their vote, but when the DSCC calls me, and they do call me, I'll tell them what I told them last time -- they've moved to far to the right and next time, I'll give them Lieberman as evidence. The DSCC should stay out of intra party fights at the state level. They have no business sticking the national party into the business of local Democrats. If they've decided to play the role of deciding for the citizens who their candidate should be and imposing a center right agenda on northern blue states I shall consider them indistinguishable from Republicans.

4 questions .

Do we want to prevent two more years of
W's judicial nominations ?

Have we a non trivial chance of a senate majority ?

Is Joe certain to be elected if he is the Dem candidate ?

If Ned is the candidate instead is he certain to be elected ?

If the answers are yes, yes, yes , and no
....end of story.

As luck would have it, Two-Buck Chuck sent me a "personal" letter asking for a contribution which I returned yesterday with a XERO in the amount slot and the explanation - "not a dime, not a vote for any pro-war candidate"

On the front of the envelope their plea for a first-class stamp to save them postage.

That went unanswered too. Dropped it in the mail last night.

Happy day

Ned Lamont will beat the Republican but that's not the issue. The issue is do you like Lieberman or Lamont as your Senator?

One question instead of four

Three answers to one question.

 1. Your implies only Ct. voters which I'm not.

2. Personally I'd prefer Lamont.

3. But my greater preference between Joe and Ned is for whoever has the highest probability of winning.

I mainly address CT voters for obvious reasons but also others who might be thinking about tossing good money after bad at the DSCC.

Now I don't discount the "electability" question entirely for I supported Kerry in the primaries, in the main, for that very reason.

But that's why I discount "electablity" substantially today. In post election focus groups, weak Bush voters in 2004 complained that they didn't trust the democrats because they felt that the party was forever adjusting positions based on political expediency. Then I saidt to myself "Self, maybe it wasn't just the candidates they were talking about"
