A Press-Register/University of South Alabama poll has Governor Bob Riley (R) leading Lieutenant Governor Lucy Baxley (D) 53% to 25%. Twenty-two percent of registered voters were undecided.

Baxley's campaign responded with a press release that said Democratic primary polls conducted by the Press-Register underestimated her margin of victory over ex-Governor Don Siegelman. Riley's spokesman would not comment on the survey.
